4 Deserts Ultramarathon
Have you heard of “The 4 Deserts”? It´s one of the toughest
competitions in the world that takes place in 7 days and 250
kilometers in the largest deserts on the planet.
Organized by the American company & Racing the Planet,
the competitors not only face extreme temperatures (which
can reach 50ºC or -30ºC) but it's also done self-sufficiently,
that is, they must carry their food and equipment . They are
only provided with hydration and a tent to sleep in.
It takes place in four deserts: in the Atacama, Chile, in the
Gobi, China, in the Sahara in Egypt and in Antarctica.
In addition to the wild conditions of the deserts, another of
the most impressive aspect is the beauty of the landscapes
of each one.
From the Atacama salt pans, home to colonies of pink
flamingos and sacred Inca sites, to the grasslands, steppes,
Ger villages and Buddhist monasteries in Mongolia, or the
world´s oldest desert and most giant dunes, in Namibia, to end
in the White Desert and its icebergs on the horizon of
Antarctica.
