Giannis Antetokounmpo
Giannis Antetokounmpo is a professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA
and who has become one of the best, if not the best player currently, but that was once poor and
being constantly chased by the police.
His parents were immigrants from Greece because they wanted to have a better life quality and
opportunities than the ones they had in Nigeria, but they had to leave his first son, Francis, with his
grandparents due to the fact that if the police caught them in Greece, their son would have been
taken away from them. They had a second son called Thanasis and then, in 1994 Giannis was born;
he has 2 other brothers who were born after him.
Growing up in struggle was very difficult for him, but he was willing to do anything to overcome
the situation his family was facing.
When he was 14, he discovered basketball, the sport with which he fell in love but had no
experience in. He would practice all afternoon with the team he played for in Athens and even
stayed up at night to keep practicing. When he turned 18 he had developed great skills for the
game and with that, he entered the 2013 NBA draft and was picked number 15 by the Milwaukee
Bucks.
Today he has played in the league for almost a decade and has already won an NBA championship,
2 MVP trophies and even League’s Most Improved Player, which all are part of the legacy we will
leave at the end of his career.
He brought success to all of his family and is proof that with hard work and dedication,
you can achieve your goals.
